Title:  New techniques to enhance molecular sensitivity of PET

Reporter:  Dr. Hao Peng

Time:  2011/12/14 Wednesday, 9:30 AM

Address:  D11Building 221 Meeting Room

AbstractPositron Emission Tomography (PET) is used in the clinic and in small animal research to study certain molecular processes associated with diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and neurological disorders and guide the discovery and development of new treatments. New PET applications such as molecular probes and associated small animal imaging assays require an order of magnitude increase in PET's molecular sensitivity. What is molecular sensitivity of PET? How to enhance it? Let's expect the presentation of Dr. Hao Peng from McMaster University.

BiographyDr. Hao Peng is an assistant professor in Department of Medical Physics & Applied Radiation Sciences, School of Biomedical Engineering at McMaster University. He received the M.S degree in applied physics from Wuhan University and the Ph.D. degree in medical physics from University of Western Ontario, Canada in 1998 and 2002, respectively. Then, he performed his postdoctoral training in Department of Radiology, Stanford University School of Medicine in 2007.Dr. Hao Peng is the reviewer of several academic journals, such as Medical Physics and IEEE Transactions in Nuclear Science. His present research interests include High spatial resolution (<1mm) detector design for Positron Emission Tomography (PET);Development of breast- and cardiac- dedicated PET cameras using different types of photodetectors including silicon photomultiplier (SiPM), avalanche photodiode (APD) and Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride (CZT) detectors; Development of simultaneous PET/MRI scanners for preclinical and clinical applications.
