学术报告:3D ultrasound imaging for carotid atherosclerosis assessment and monitoring

报告内容摘要:
The build-up of atherosclerotic plaque within the arterial wall of the carotid arteries has been shown to be an important contributor to stroke. Quantitative measurements of the progression/regression of carotid plaque are essential to monitor patients and evaluate new treatment options for carotid atherosclerosis. Many researchers have investigated the use of 3D ultrasound as a cost-effective imaging modality to quantify plaque and vessel wall volumes. However, few studies have analyzed plaque thickness as a localized property. Since carotid atherosclerosis is a focal disease that predominantly occurs at bifurcations, biomarkers based on local plaque change may be more sensitive in assessing the progression and regression of carotid plaques in therapeutic clinical trials, thereby reducing the sample size required to demonstrate statistical significance. This talk describes techniques applied for the analysis and quantification of localized vessel wall and plaque thickness change proposed by our group.
报告人简介:Bernard Chiu 博士,香港城市大学电子工程系,助理教授,博士生导师。2001年获加拿大卡尔加里大学电子工程专业学士学位;2003年获加拿大滑铁卢大学电子与计算机工程专业硕士学位;2008年获加拿大西安大略大学生物医学工程专业博士学位。他是美国华盛顿大学放射学科高级会员。主要研究方向:医学图像处理、心血管疾病风险评估和监测的量化及可视化分析。
